Hunger Awareness Week is highlighting the on-going struggle for some in Windsor-Essex to put food on the table.
Food-banks throughout Windsor-Essex rely on the Unemployed Help Centre to keep food on the table according to CEO June Muir.
Muir says the centre assists 3,000, unemployed, or underemployed residents. That doesn't include 15 other food banks throughout Windsor-Essex
"We're trying to get the message out to people, if you think Canadians aren't hungry, think again," she says. "It's really important to still help those who need help. "
Muir says "we still have people that are working, they have a job, but because of the high cost of housing, hydro, they're just not able to make ends meet."
"Think about what we sit down each and every night to eat, it's healthy nutritional food, so lets help others do the same thing," Muir says. "Even though this campaign only runs a week long, we're still here, we're the hub for 15-food-banks and we welcome donations."
Food collected during the week will be shared by area food banks.
