Keep an eye out for Strays on Street Corners.
The Windsor-Essex County Humane Society is kicking off its annual fundraising drive Thursday.
Similar to the Goodfellows newspaper drive, Executive Director Melanie Coulter says volunteers will be out in the community collecting donations.
"This is one of our largest events," says Coulter. "It definitely brings in a lot of the necessary funds to run a variety of programs that we offer and animals have touched so many people. Whether it's a handful of spare change or whether people can spare bills, it all adds up and we really appreciate it because it definitely does make a difference."
She says all the money raised stays in Windsor-Essex.
It's great to see because people are so kind hearted and I've done the event and I've been on street corners myself for this event. This is money that stays local that helps animals locally in our community. Every cent of it helps animals in Windsor and Essex County and we really appreciate the community's support."
Coulter says the funds will be used for a number of important programs.
"That's anything from our cruelty investigations, our humane education, our adoption program. All that rescue and relief work is really only possible because of events like this."
Volunteers will be out at several intersections throughout the city Thursday, Friday and Saturday collecting donations.
Launched in 2009, last year's event raised close to $30,000.
