An Essex company has been ordered by the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal to pay $20,000 to an employee who was terminated.
Benn Saad is a Tunisian man who was a worker at Essex Weld and was let go in February 2015.
He launched a complaint against the company to the tribunal alleging the dismissal was based on a disability.
The tribunal reviewed the complaint and issued a judgement this month.
It did not agree there was any racial discrimination that led to the termination, but agreed a disability of Mister Saad was the cause.
The tribunal ordered the payment along with retroactive interest to the date of termination.
The judgement notes there was no request for any compensation for lost wages.
