The super-heated real estate market in the Greater Toronto Area has created a new category — "move over" buyers.
A ReMax realty survey found the cost of properties was a top reason for relocating out of the larger urban area, but there were other factors.
Broker-Manager ReMax Preferred Realty Limited in Windsor, Denny Laurin, says the strong job market in Windsor is attracting some people.
"Workers are finding jobs, people are probably coming back to this market from even out west where things have gotten a little tougher for employment moving back to this community because they may have come from Windsor originally," says Laurin.
The ReMax survey found that after price 77% of respondents said access to green space influenced their purchase.
Laurin says access to green space and the potential of better healthcare make a difference.
"Certainly a bit of open land," says Laurin. "We have provincial parks easy access to waterways we've got our new hospital that's going to be built hopefully."
In the surveyr, 66% cited proximity to work, 65% liked the proximity to retail centres and 65% wanted to be closer to family and friends.
The survey found all those factors ranked higher than the style of a home.
