The University of Windsor's International Student Centre is asking for the public's help.
The centre is looking for host families to open their doors to out-of-country students for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Director Beth Oakley says it's a chance for the host families to share a traditional Thanksgiving meal with the international students and show off a taste of Canadian culture.
Oakley says "when they come here, they're coming from a different background, different culture. They maybe experiencing home sickness. They just arrived in many cases very recently and so it kind of sets the tone for them."
"There are no requirements for a host family," says Oakley. "Some of our students have special dietary needs and so we just simply ask whether that can be accommodated or not. We ask whether you live on a bus route or whether you'd be willing to provide transportation and just simply stuff like that. We don't expect families to alter their traditions."
The "Host for the Holidays" program also takes place at Christmas.
