Hospice of Windsor and Essex County is growing.
A $1-million expansion at the Windsor location will include two patient suites, two family rooms and a new sun room.
Executive Director Carol Derbyshire says demand for hospice services is growing. "Last year we had 347 applications and we were able to accommodate 151. I know it's not possible to take care of everybody at once, but we're trying to do the best we can."
"The number of families wanting to access the service continues to grow," says Derbyshire. "I think the word is out there. Many people have been through our residential homes, they've had good care and they tell others, so people want to come now. I think it's a combination of the aging population, people knowing it's here and hearing good things about it."
Derbyshire says the expansion will accommodate 40 more families a year.
Construction is set to begin in July.
