An allegation of harness horse race race fixing at the Leamington and Dresden race tracks is under investigation by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
The AGCO says it can't comment on what it deems an "active investigation."
Spokesperson Ray Kahnert says they received a call from a member of the public raising concerns about racing in both Dresden and Leamington.
Kahnert says the AGCO takes these allegations very seriously.
"AGCO investigators in our London office did receive a call from a member of the public who had concerns about racing last season at Leamington and Dresden Raceways" says Kahnert "As the fairness and integrity of horse racing is of paramount concern to us the AGCO launched this review of the allegations"
Kahnert says details of the allegation won't be made public during the investigation.
"In order to protect the integrity of the investigation" says Kahnert "We would not be mentioning names or commenting on dates if at all until the investigation is complete just to respect the due process"
Kahnert says there is a range of action the AGCO can take.
"The penalties for infractions can range from a warning, to a suspension - a temporary suspension, to a monetary penalty" explains Kahnert "And in the cases of extreme infraction, a revocation of the license"
He says the review of the allegation is not complete and investigators are still gathering information.
Kahnert says the AGCO does not have the power to lay criminal charges under The Horse Racing Licensing Act, but does have a close relationship with the OPP.
AM800 has been told the allegation was submitted to the AGCO in November.
