Lovey the horse has found a new home.
The Windsor-Essex County Humane Society has relocated the horse from its former home on County Rd. 42 near the 9th Concession after following up complaints of the horse being under fed.
As heard on CTV Windsor, the horse's former caretaker Shawn Berthiaume has left the property with the land being completely cleared by excavation equipment. Berthiaume had defended his care of the 29-year-old horse, arguing its boney appearance was just a product of its age.
Humane Society Executive Director Melanie Coulter says a follow-up visit led to the horse being seized.
"When the horse was returned, there were continuing [veterinarian] care requirements in place," says Coulter. "When that visit didn't occur, that's when our officers removed the horse a second time."

Coulter won't identify the new owner, but says the horse is enjoying her new surroundings.
"Lovey is doing very well," says Coulter. "She has been able to get the special food she needs, she's having an easier time eating it now that her teeth have been done and her family is taking really good care of her."
Caretaker Shawn Berthiaume spoke to AM800 News in August as he co-operated with the humane society investigation.
"Unfortunately, we had to allow this out of good faith, take the horse to your [veterinarian] have her examined, they said they would return her after the [veterinarian] examined her and we will see what they say then," says Berthiaume.
Coulter says there are still a number of horses in Berthiaume's care and the humane society is monitoring the situation.
