The mayor of Chatham-Kent is seeking re-election.
Randy Hope has filed his nomination papers for October's municipal election.
Hope has been mayor for the last three terms and says it never crossed his mind not to seek re-election.
He says during his time as mayor, a lot has changed in the municipality.
"We had a huge debt level," says Hope. "We had $164-million in debt, we're down to 86.4. Our unemployment rate was at about 15, we're down to about six. So the economy is going in the right direction but there's still more to do."
Hope says he enjoys working with the community to move the municipality forward.
"Are you able to take everybody's concerns no, you're going to upset some people but it's making some business decisions, moving the community forward," says Hope. "Like a double ice pad arena which we need, re-developing the Navistar property, working with the other smaller communities that we have of making sure that they thrive and people want to work and play there too so the works never done."
Current councillor Darrin Canniff and Alysson Storey are also running for mayor.
The municipal election is October 22nd.
