For a second day in a row, there has been a deadly crash on an Essex County roadway.
On Thursday, Ontario Provincial Police reported a two-vehicle, head-on collision on Highway 77 in Leamington around 7:30 a.m. where one person died and another suffered, what police describe as, non-life-threatening injuries.
“Unfortunately, one driver from one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at hospital,” said Const. Stephanie Caron.
According to OPP, a minivan and an SUV collided during the morning commute, closing the highway between County Rd. 14 and Mersea Rd. 8 for a subsequent police investigation.
A dump truck was also seen in the west side ditch of the crash scene, but OPP could not confirm its involvement.
As the investigation continues, OPP are urging anyone with video of the crash to call 1-888-310-1122.
Fatal tragedies
The crash comes just a day after three people lost their lives in a six-vehicle crash on County Rd. 22 in Lakeshore.
OPP report the collision occurred just after 6 a.m. on Wednesday, resulting in the closure of the road between Manning Rd. and West Pike Creek Rd.
Police continue to investigate the crash.
While the public awaits answers, police are warning people not to rush to judgement or believe everything floating online.
“There could be some truth on some social media,” said Const. Caron. “I’m absolutely not going to believe everything I read on social media so, there’s your beware public announcement for that.”
Police have yet to determine the cause of the crash and haven’t identified speed as a factor as of yet.
“There’s a fair amount of concern from citizens, different residential areas where the public is seeing a lot of excessive speed, so we’re out there enforcing as much as we can,” said Const. Caron.
The latest tragedy on area roadways as OPP urging drivers to be patient and take safety seriously behind the wheel.
“It’s tough. The county’s kind of getting hit hard and all the more reason for us to keep enforcing safe driving in our area,” she said.
