An outstanding report card for the LaSalle Police Service.
The department's annual report found a 99% public approval rate from 500 households surveyed.
Police Chief John Leontowicz says another major highlight is the fact that, with more than 10,000 calls for service, not a single public complaint was filed against the police.
He says they've been surveying the public for the last number of years and have been seeing positive results. "It takes a team to achieve those accomplishments and when you have 99% approval rating for the past 12 or 14 years that goes a long way," says Leontowicz. "They work at it earnestly and with dedication and pride and there's people behind the scenes that are doing a great job and it's a great team effort."
The report also found minor crime numbers to be slightly up, something Leontowicz attributes to the town's growth.
He says the public plays a part in keeping the community safe. "Policing has changed and we've changed with it. Now it's community driven. They're taking a lead role. It's a huge difference when community leaders take a role, when residents take a lead role and we're there to support them," says Leontowicz.
There are 36 sworn police officers in LaSalle.
