Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement on the potential for heavy rain heading into Saturday night.
According to the statement, rainfall amounts of 25 to 50mm are possible for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent.
Meteorologists are tracking slow moving showers and thunderstorms associated with a cold front — some of the thunderstorms have the potential for heavy downpours which could drop the bulk of that rainfall in an hour or less.
Lightning and wind gusts near 60km/h are also possible during those storms.
The precipitation amounts will be quite variable across the region, with some areas getting little or no rain at all.
Environment Canada says the precipitation amounts will vary throughout the region and thunderstorm activity will be pushed to the southeast of the area this evening.
