Environment Canada has issued a heat warning ahead of a very hot Canada Day long weekend.
The weekend forecast is calling for temperatures in the low 30's, possibly as high as 37C on Sunday, but feeling like its in the low-to-mid 40's with the humidex factored in.
And this heat wave isn't expected to go anywhere, anytime soon. The forecast is calling for temperatures in the low to mid 30's for the next seven days.
Meteorologist Ria Alsen told AM800's 'The Morning Drive' that it's rare to have a lengthy heat event like what's on the way.
"Since records begin in Windsor in around 1940, there's been 16 times where we've had a heat event or eight days or more," says Alsen.
One of the longest heat events was back in 1988 and that lasted 14 days. "It's pretty rare to have this kind of event happen," she says. "In recent years I can't recall an event lasting this long."
