An investigation into an information breach at a local long-term care home in Essex, Ont. continues.
Earlier this week CUPE confirmed a confidentiality breach involving the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit and Iler Lodge. According to Local 1370, the worker's COVID-19 test results may have been released in a manner that goes against provincial requirements.
Health unit CEO Theresa Marentette confirmed both sides are looking into what happened.
"We'll work with all parties to mitigate the risk of that information getting further than it should be and to work with the person whose information was breached to try to prevent this from happening again," she says.
She tells AM800 News the health unit is in contact with everyone involved.
"It's explained to them what we've done to contain the breach, what information was inadvertently shared, to whom; so there is a process," says Marentette.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed says everyone is looking for information on positive cases during the pandemic, but it still needs to be released properly.
"Whether we're talking about a workplace or individuals there is always this need and we do take that responsibility very seriously and we try our best to contain the information in the best possible way," he added.
Ahmed says the investigation into how the information was breached could result in amendments to the health unit's policies in the future.
