The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit maintains it is prepared to address measles and other infectious diseases while its nurses are on strike.
Health Unit CEO Theresa Marentette released a statement on Wednesday indicating there are currently no cases of measles in Windsor-Essex.
She says the health unit will continue its important work in the prevention and management of infectious diseases during the current labour disruption.
More than 80 nurses, members of the Ontario Nurses Association, walked off the job last Friday after rejecting the employer's last offer.
ONA Bargaining Committee President Barb Deter said Wednesday morning that measles are coming here and the nurses are the ones who prevent cases of syphilis, stop TB cases from spreading and immunizing children.
