The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is sounding the alarm on a high risk COVID-19 exposure point within the community.
Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Shanker Nesathurai says 42 people attended a birthday party at Elite Restaurant on Main St. W. in Kingsville have tested positive for the virus.
The health unit is urging anyone who attended the restaurant between November 18 and December 2 to get tested immediately and to isolate if any COVID-19 symptoms develop.
He says this is the biggest single incident at a restaurant since the pandemic began.
"It's the most number of people who have tested positive at any one restaurant in Windsor-Essex since the beginning of the pandemic. If you're sick, call your doctor and get treatment and stay at home and self isolate."
Nesathurai says surrounding businesses are being asked to actively screen staff and patrons as there's an increased risk of transmission in the Kingsville and Leamington area.
"Some of these places could be long-term care facilities, the hospital, the residences of migrant farm workers. If we could get more people vaccinated, that would be one additional step to try to bring COVID under control."
Household members of anyone who attended are being given the same instructions — get tested immediately and isolate if you have symptoms.
The latest information on community exposure points can be found on the health unit's website.
