The Medical Officer of Health for Windsor-Essex is asking health care providers especially those working at long term care facilities, to only work at one site during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Dr. Wajid Ahmed says limiting the workers to only one facility will help prevent the spread of the virus from one institution to another.
"In the light of vulnerability patients in these and the risk of COVID-19 spread in these institutions, I'm strongly recommended that all health care providers especially those who work in long term care homes and are employed in multiple settings to risk to their work to one institution during this COVID-19 pandemic outbreak," says Dr. Ahmed.
He says he's strong recommending heath care providers to only work at one site during the outbreak.
"All the workers who work at multiple institutions should work closely with their employers to make arrangements for them to work only in one institution. This will help to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19 to another."
He says the health care providers are working with vulnerable patients.
"The whole thought behind that is we can contain the system as much as possible because those individuals need services, those individuals need care," says Dr. Ahmed. "All of those health care workers are providing those cares, it is essential."
At Tuesday morning's daily address, health unit officials said 500 people have been tested for COVID-19 with 329 tests pending.
There are three confirmed cases in Windsor-Essex and two in Chatham-Kent.
