Rather than see it fall by the wayside, the tourism department in Amherstburg is hoping the town takes over the Windsor-Essex Harvest Festival.
It was started by the Amherstburg Chamber of Commerce to replace the Shores of Erie Wine Festival but the chamber no longer wants to organize the event.
Chamber President Carolyn Davies says the town has been on a roll recently and she hopes it continues. "I hope they use their wisdom wisely. They've made some excellent decisions in the last few months, as far as purchasing Duffy's so we can expand our waterfront and bring in more tourism. As well, purchasing the Bellevue which is going to be a huge focal point for Amherstburg."
The tourism department pleads its case before town council tonight.
Harvest Festival attracted nearly 5,000 people and generated $150,000 in sales for vendors when it was held in September.
