Windsor Spitfire fans continue to keep an eye on what's happening at the Montreal Canadiens training camp.
Defenceman Mikhail Sergachev is still there but there's been no word on whether the Habs first overall draft pick in 2016 is going to stick with the NHL club or being returned to Windsor.
But his chances of staying increased at this morning's practice as the team waived veteran defenceman Mark Barberio with the purpose of sending him to the minors.
Sergachev then spent the morning practicing alongside Alexi Emelin on the team's third defence pairing.
TSN's John Lu covers the Montreal Canadiens and tells AM800 the Canadiens are giving Sergachev 'more than just a look' to see what he's capable of doing.
Sergachev is scheduled to play for Montreal Thursday night when they host Toronto in preseason action. If he is returned to Windsor, Sergachev would be a big part of the Spitfires run to the Memorial Cup. Sergachev had 17 goals and 57 points in 67 games last season for Windsor while being named the OHL's Most Outstanding Defenceman.
