A near tragedy at the Windsor ReStore has prompted the local Habitat for Humanity to encourage people to give blood.
On April 1, 2018, ReStore Regional Manager Rick Young was moving a toilet and didn't notice it had a crack in it.
As he tried to move it, the toilet shattered and a large, sharp piece came down on his forearm.
"I went to turn around to get out of the way and by the time I turned back around it had already cut me," he says. "It was a major cut to my forearm I cut an artery and four tendons, three in the fingers and one in the thumb."
The incident prompted a change in procedures at the store by adding kelvar sleeves to all of its workforce.
"Anybody working with any product now has to wear one of these sleeves and what it will do is it will avoid a cut to any part of the arms and that's where you're grabbing things all the time."
Young has had several surgeries on his arm to repair the damage and is still recovering.
