LaSalle town council is looking to address a concern around guns being fired, especially around the waterways.
A report by Deputy Chief Kevin Beaudoin which will be presented to council Tuesday night, points out 44 calls from 2013-2018.
The gunshots around the waterways are mostly for hunting, but in some cases, pellets have strayed and hit homes, vehicles and people
Given the town is looking to develop its waterfront, Councillor Jeff Renaud says safety is paramount.
"We are looking at developing some of our waterfront and we are also looking at a few complaints that we have had," he says. "There have been a handful noise complaints and nuisance complaints in the past few years about gunshots."
He points out there is a grey area when it comes to this issue.
"People are allowed to hunt on the water and what's happened is, as the report stated, there has been a few near misses in the past."
Renaud expects council will send the report to administration to come up with options and best practices to deal with the issue.
Under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, the towns of Tecumseh and Lakeshore do have regulations prohibiting possession of a firearm unless it is unloaded and encased. LaSalle does not have the same regulations.
The report indicates residential development in the town has increased over the past several years.
