Unexpected object found in Gladstone Avenue home

What started as a home renovation project in a quiet Windsor neighborhood became an evacuation.

11-year-old Joshua Restanovic was helping his mom do some work in the basement of their Gladstone Avenue home.

As they were removing shelves an unexpected object appeared that led to a closure of Gladstone from Ellis Avenue to Shepherd Street.

Restanovic says he found the unusual object in the corner.

"We were taking down our workshop and then moving a cabinet and then I saw the grenade," says Restanovic.

Joshua's mother Sherry says she was startled.

"Mom I found a grenade," says Restanovic.  "So he brought it up and called the police, brought it on the front porch and waited for them to show up"

Police at the scene say it looks like a grenade, but is likely a momento left behind by a former resident.

As a precaution the Windsor Police bomb disposal unit was called in to check the object out.
