A new housing development has been given the go ahead by town council in Amherstburg.
Council has agreed to a zoning change to allow for 49 townhomes on a chunk of vacant land on Simcoe St. near Pacific Ave.
Each unit will run between $350,000 and $450,000 — something deputy mayor Leo Meloche says will fill a void in the town for retirees looking to relocate.
Meloche sits on the Windsor-Essex Community Housing Corporation Board and says Amherstburg currently has an abundance detached homes, but lacks more affordable options for seniors and small families.
Developers now have to return to council with an official site plan before construction can begin.
