The St. Clair College Green Giants open their Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League season at LaCasse Park Tuesday night when they host the Galion Graders from Ohio.
Last season, their second in the League, the Green Giants won the Northern Division going 26-and-16.
St. Clair, coached by Dave Cooper has several local players on the team again this year, including Evan Ferguson, Aidan Massad, Michael Beale, and Daniel Warkentin.
Warkentin's a 6 foot 4, 210 pound catcher/infielder from Leamington who played his College ball the past two season in Champaign Illinois, for Parkland College.
Warkentin tells AM800 Sports this is something new for him.
"I'm kind of excited for the season," admits Warkentin. "It's my first year playing summer ball and I've heard great reviews from guys that played last year and I heard it's good playing with Coop, as he takes care of you pretty well."
Warkentin says joining the Green Giants seemed to be a perfect fit.
"Just how close it was to home and I'm very familiar with the area and have played with a couple of guys that are on the roster and I heard great reviews so hopefully I'll have fun," adds Warkentin.
The Southern Ohio Cooperheads are the defending champions.
