The committee behind the Great Canadian Flag Project is making sure the massive flag stays in place and looks fresh.
As part of the fundraising they wanted to ensure there was an ongoing fund to replace and repair the flag. Committee Chair Peter Hrastovec says the funds have been allocated to the Windsor Essex Community Foundation.
He says the city will be able to use the money as needed.
"We will leave it to the corporation to make regular and ongoing arrangements with the foundation regarding access to these funds and in particular the interest earned on the capital for the exclusive purpose of flag maintenance and purchases in the ensuing years."

He says they raised far more for maintenance than they expected.
"Invested with the Windsor Essex Community Foundation is the sum of $155,000," says Hrastovec. "That is an amount that is more than 150% of our legacy goal."
That the project had longevity was part of the plan from the outset.
"So that generations in the future can look upon this site and experience the same pride and exhilaration shared by us," explains Hrastovec.
Over the winter months a somewhat smaller flag has been raised on the pole to reduce the possibility of damage in severe weather.
