A successful first day for the multi-use pathway on the Gordie Howe International Bridge.
The pathway opened to the public on Wednesday, Aug. 5 and saw approximately 3,400 walkers, runners and cyclists.
Hundreds of people had lined up on both sides of the crossing Wednesday morning to be among the first to use the pathway.
The three-kilometre path will be open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from April 1 to October 31, and 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. from November 1 to March 31.
According to the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority, the Gordie Howe is equipped with sophisticated weather monitoring systems that provide real-time information on conditions across the crossing, including wind speed, direction, temperature, precipitation, visibility, and more.
Safety remains a top priority, and the pathway may be temporarily restricted or closed to due weather conditions. Those decisions will be made on real-time conditions.
If a closure or restriction is in place, information will be shared with the public through the WDBA social media pages.
Anyone planning to use the pathway is reminded to bring their passport.
