The Windsor Goodfellows Newspaper Drive will return to the east end Walmart next year.
The charity group and company spoke about an incident which took place on Friday when volunteers for the newspaper drive were kicked off the property on Tecumseh Rd. E.
Walmart said it was a misunderstanding and both sides have agreed the Goodfellows will be back next year selling papers in the parking lot and parking lot entrance.
Management at the Walmart on Tecumseh Rd. East informed the Goodfellows that the Salvation Army was already collecting inside and asked the Goodfellows to collect in the parking lot but there was a miscommunication in the message.
Goodfellows Newspaper Drive Chair Bruce Tait says everything has been ironed it.
"Their position is that they support charity fundraising at Walmart and we did have permission to be in the parking lot and there was a miscommunication in the store itself and told us we had to leave," says Tait. "I have their assurance that we will be there next year in the parking lot and the entrances for the parking lot for the Goodfellows newspaper drive."
Tait says it is unfortunate the incident received a lot of attention and put Walmart in a bad light but he's glad the issue has been resolved.
