A sign of the season will out on Windsor and area street corners later this week.
The Windsor Goodfellows will be out starting Thursday selling their papers to help the needy. This year they're increasing their goal for the drive from $250,000 to $275,000.
Goodfellows Vice President Gil Barichello says they have received applications for a Christmas basket at their location at Park and Church Streets, and have a huge need to fill this year.
"We're looking right now at approximately packing around 5,000 boxes for Christmas," Barichello explains.
Goodfellows have become a signal of the season.
"When they see the newspaper, people recognize it and they say 'oh Christmas is near'" says Barichello. "It's something that is sort of become a tradition in this city and it kind of triggers the mind of people that the Goodfellows are out there so Christmas is around the corner."
Barichello says the Roundhouse Centre storefront will be open starting at 8 am November 23rd, 24th and 25th.
He says Goodfellows also supports breakfast programs in nine area schools and has a program to buy shoes for kids who can't afford them.
