Salaried employees with more than 12-years experience at General Motors across North America are being offered a buyout.
Details of the package were not unveiled but the automakers says they are continuing their efforts to trim $6.5-billion from their budget in 2018.
Officials say they have realized a savings of nearly $6.3-billion so far.
Buyouts are being offered to about 18,000 white-collar workers or 36% of the salaried employees.
The buyout offer is in effect through November 19th.
The announcement comes on the same day that GM reported a $2.5 billion third-quarter profit.
Company spokesman Patrick Morrissey wouldn't say whether GM is trying to reach a target number of employees.
