The Greater Essex County District School Board is pleased with its level of funding from the Ministry of Education.
Despite public board schools needing over $375-million worth of work, a board spokesperson says they are getting enough money to address urgent needs.
As AM800 News told you Tuesday, a report from the 'Fix Our Schools Campaign' has charted the infrastructure deficit for schools across Southwest Ontario.
Using Ministry of Education statistics, the report outlines the entire Southwest Ontario region is in need of $1.5-billion in repairs.
For the local public board alone, $375.75-million is needed.
Coordinator of Engineering, Giuliana Hinchliffe says in the last three years, the board has received almost $80-million to address high and urgent needs which has mitigated a lot of the board's risks.
She says the level of funding in the past five years has been unprecedented.
"We've done some really strategic things in terms of addressing heating issues and cooling issues and operational costs, programs in terms of comfort for students so, we've done a ton of stuff," says Hinchliffe.
She says last year, work was being done in 50 GECDSB schools adding "this year we're in another 40-50 buildings doing work so that is unprecedented in my career here so, I think that the ministry is going down the right path in terms of assessing needs in our schools and trying to adequately fund it."
While $375.75-milion might seem very high, Hinchliffe says it also includes things very low on the priority list such as painting a room or replacing flooring.
