Some future architects and engineers in the making at Marlborough Public School in west Windsor.
It held a bridge building contest this month where students were asked to build a 30cm-45cm bridge made out of whatever materials they choose.
Many picked popsicle sticks, cardboard, old plastic bottles and some added sparkles and jewels.
The winning entry came from Grade 3 student Zak Termos who built his bridge out of popsicle sticks and tongue depressors.
"It is really insane, I was really proud," he says. "How I came up with this idea, I thought of it in my imagination."
Architectural Project Co-ordinator with the Windsor Detroit Bridge Authority Karey Thatcher judged the entries and picked Termos's bridge based on its appearance, its function and he says, 'it was quite elegant for this age, I was quite impressed.'

Gr. 6 student Jacob Gagnon also made a bridge out of popsicle sticks and painted it brown.
"Pretty much I doubled all the popsicle sticks for the strength and support so it won't be wobbly like those old bridges in movies," says Gagnon.
Termos wins a pizza party for his class.
