An special weather advisory for Windsor-Essex and Chatham Kent is now over.
On Wednesday afternoon, Environment Canada warned about the development of funnel clouds in the region — one was spotted in Leamington around 2pm.
The weather agency says these types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms and not a danger near the ground.
Meteorologist Geoff Coulson tells AM800 News those systems have since moved out of the region and out over Lake Erie.
Funnel clouds should be taken seriously and residents should take shelter if one is spotted in the event it touches ground.
