Funeral arrangements have now been set for Howard McCurdy.
The former MP, University of Windsor professor and local civil rights activist will be laid to rest next Saturday March 3.
The family is hosting a memorial service at 3pm on the Saturday but public visitations will take place on March 2 from 2pm until 5pm and 7pm until 9pm at Families First Funeral Home on Dougall Avenue.
McCurdy died on Tuesday at the age of 85.
In 1962 he founded the Guardian Club, a civil rights organization to fight racial discrimination in Windsor.
In 1969 McCurdy was a founder and the first President of the National Black Coalition of Canada.
In 1980, he was elected alderman for the City of Windsor and then became and NDP MP for the riding of Windsor-Walkerville.
McCurdy was Canada's second black MP.
He was also made a member of the Order of Ontario and Order of Canada.
