Home Care Ontario wants more money from the province.
The umbrella agency for home care companies is asking for a raise for home care across the province to help out hospital overcrowding. It's part of a pre-budget submission to the government -asking for extra funding for more home visits, nursing visits and other home care services.
Sue VanderBent is the CEO of Home Care Ontario.
Speaking on AM800's The Afternoon News she says the organization is asking for a 1% funding increase in advance of the first budget for the Doug Ford government and it will make a huge difference.
She says thay funding would go straight to supporting 9-million more Personal Support Workers visits and 5-million more nursing visits and therapy visit a critical part.
VanderBent says inpatient and outpatient care should work hand and hand, but right now the system is broken.
"Hands on the patient in the home, this is a critical part of keeping people stable and keeping families comfortable with their parents and their loved ones receiving care in the home," she added.
Home Care Ontario is hoping the money will lead to the end of, "hallway medicine."
VanderBent is certain added funding to make home visits more available will streamline Ontario's healthcare system.
