An obviously angry Windsor West MP is calling a public meeting over the permit issued to the Ambassador Bridge.
Brian Masse has announced the issue will be the focus of a meeting on September 13 at 6pm at the Fogolar Furlan Club.
He says there has been a shameful lack of transparency about the process from the federal government over the issue of allowing the bridge company to build a replacement span.
Masse says it is simply wrong that people outside the Windsor community were made aware of the decision first.
"That is something I find reprehensible, I find unfortunate and I find it terribly frustrating for building public confidence which is so important for the families that actually live and breathe this every single day," says Masse.
He says the way the permit was approved makes it impossible to change.
"It's an Order in Cabinet right now, so there's nothing I can do that would actually stop it happening," says Masse. "So, no I'm not going to try to reverse a cabinet decision right now because the reality is when they passed the order in council the clock started ticking for the next five years for them to build this actual span."
Masse says the federal government had better not be putting up a smoke screen about their intentions.
"The bottom line about all of this was we were supposed to get international trucks off of city streets if this is a rope and dope attempt by the government, there will be bloody hell to pay," says Masse.
He adds that he has reached out to Transport Minister Marc Garneau, but has not had a response.
Masse admits he is very concerned about the future of the Gordie Howe Bridge project.
