As seen on CTV Windsor News, friends and family continue to morn the loss of a Windsor man who was killed in a hit and run.
Ryan Barron was killed while skateboarding on a Vancouver street last year, friend Ian Dummer says everyone is still hopeful those responsible will be brought to justice.
"Ryan didn't deserve to be killed, you got to take responsibility for your actions," says Dummer. "That's all we can hope for at this point."
Vancouver police found a badly damaged car, the driver knew they hit someone, but a year later no arrests have been made.
Criminal defence lawyer Paul Doroshenko says police may having an idea of who did it, but being able to prove it in court are two different things.
"They may have a very good idea who the driver is, but do they have admissible evidence that can prove who the driver was," he says. "When it comes to laying a charge, they have to think, can we prove this case, and is there a substantial likelihood of a successful prosecution showing that this person is the driver at the time that the collision happened."
The city has given the go-ahead for a new skate-bowl in his honour at Atkinson Skate Park. The "Barron Bowl" in July is a fitting tribute according to Dummer.
"It will be used, that's the best part. A lot of skateboarders will be here to put it to use," he says. "While they're riding it they'll be thinking of him and it will bring back memories."
If the concrete bowl becomes a reality, it would be the first of its kind in Essex County.
The 'Friends 4 Atkinson' hope to begin construction in 2019.
