A special military ceremony is taking place at City Hall Square this afternoon.
The "Freedom of the City" march goes from the Cenotaph to City Hall and back starting at 2pm.
The march is being done to recognize the newly fromer 31 Service Battalion — which is an amalgamation of units in Hamilton, London and WIndsor.
About 80 personnel will be involved.
Major Catherine Wollocombe says it's a traditional, but important event.
"'Freedom of the City' is a mutual respect between the community and the military basically as we serve throughout in Canada or abroad we also have the respect of the community and it allows us to train in a free type of atmosphere," says Wollocombe.

Wollocombe stresses the importance of the event in starting a new chapter for the unit.
"The re-organization is very important because it is a new identity for our unit and especially with the amalgamation of three other companies in southwestern Ontario — it is a very big deal," says Wollocombe.
31 Service Battalion has personnel stationed in Hamilton, London and Windsor with the headquarters in London. This merges the former 21, 22 and 23 service battalions.
The battalion provides combat support with things like weapons tech, transportation, logistics, maintenance and repairs.
