Spitfire fans have raised more than $10,000 for local charitable groups.
The annual Stick It To Cancer night raised $4,636,15; with 100% of money raised going directly to local cancer care and research initiatives.
On November 1st, the OHL club teamed up with the Windsor Police Service and Special Olympics Ontario, and Spits fans came up big again, raising more than $3,000.
Helping the Windsor Professional Firefighters Association launch Sparky’s Toy Drive again this year, fans helped "Fill The Boot" to the tune of $2,071.00 on November 10th, in addition to the hundreds of toys collected that will make the holiday season brighter for local children in need.
Finally, at the November 15th game, team captain Luke Boka made the first donation to the Salvation Army’s annual Christmas Kettle Campaign and our fans got the mainstay fundraiser started with more than $500 donated.
"Spitfire fans, once again, have stepped up big in support of those in need in our community," said Coordinator of Media and Public Relations, Dave Ducharme. "With the nature of our scheduling, these charitable nights often tend to happen in close proximity to each other. But that never stops our generous fans from digging deep, in the traditional spirit of giving we have become so accustomed to in Windsor and Essex County."
Ducharme says there’s two big holiday-themed game nights to come including AM800 CKLW’s Cans For A Cause, which kicks off on Thursday, November 29th as the Spitfires take on the Soo Greyhounds, followed by the team’s annual Teddy Bear Toss on Sunday, December 16th at 2:05pm vs. Saginaw.
