Dave Matsos was said to be alert in hospital

Hamilton Bulldogs head coach Dave Matsos was taken to the hospital after collapsing on his team's bench Saturday night in an OHL matchup against the Barrie Colts.

In the final seconds of the game Matsos, a former assistant coach for the Windsor Spitfires,  collapsed on the bench and was immediately attended to by on-site paramedics.

He was alert and responsive when taken to a local hospital for what the league said were, ``precautionary measures.''

The 44 year old, who is behind the Bulldogs' bench for a second year after serving as assistant coach in 2017-18, is in his 10th season coaching in the OHL.

Hamilton was leading 4-2 when the game was called and awarded the victory.
