NHL games on Thursday include, the Carolina Hurricanes playing the Blackhawks in Chicago.
32 year old Bryan Bickell officially retired from the NHL last April and during his career, helped the Blackhawks win two Stanley Cups.
The former Spitfire also played for Carolina, and although his hockey career is over, he hasn't stopped fighting.
Since he was diagnosed with relapsing multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2016, Bickell has taken on a new goal, to face this challenge with the same fighting mentality that got him through his successful years in hockey.
Bickell is also committed to inspiring others in the MS community to do the same.
He continues to keep a positive outlook on life, taking each day one at a time by sharing his story.
Bickell says he remembers the day he knew something was wrong.
"I remember when I was in Jersey and we we're having pregame, and I woke up that morning and it was in my right leg, and everything was still moving, but it was just off."
Bickell tells AM800 Sports his wife Amanda has been his rock since they were teenagers.
"She's been through it all, even when I was playing for the Ottawa 67's and got traded to Windsor for that half-year, we were in a long-distance relationship and it was probably the low of our relationship, but we were together since I was 16."
MS is a disease of the central nervous system that impacts 2.3 million people worldwide, often striking in the prime of life.
Approximately 85 percent of people are initially diagnosed with relapsing MS, which is the most common form of the disease.
