A former NHL enforcer and tough guy will be leading the way in the 8th annual Bob Probert Ride in Windsor-Essex.
Scott 'the sheriff' Parker played with the New Jersey Devils, San Jose Sharks and won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2001.
He fought Probert back in the day and will be a road captain for this year's event set for June 24.
"I'm honoured," he says. "The only thing we are missing is Bob, it is unfortunate but it is a good thing what they are doing raising money and raising awareness."
In the past seven years, the ride has raised more than $787,000 for local cardiac services.
Parker dropped the gloves with Probert and jokes, he paid for it.
"They were good and bad. He was a big teacher to me and unfortunately I had to fight him back in the day but it was a learning experience and I was better for it."
In 2017, 1,300 people in Windsor-Essex were referred to the Cardiac Wellness Program at Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare.
To date, the money raised from the ride has been used for angioplasty services, new exercise equipment for the Cardiac Wellness Centre and expanding cardiac rehab services.
Probert died in 2010 at the age of 45 of a heart attack.
