It's decision day at Essex Town Council.
Council will discuss tonight how to fill the Ward 3 seat left by the sudden resignation of Councillor Bill Caixiero.
Council can appoint a replacement or hold a by-election.
Among those who will be in the audience tonight is former councillor and mayoral candidate Ron Rogers. "I am pushing, or I'd like to see a by-election because I would like to run in a by-election, see where things go from there."
While he would like to see the seat voted on by residents, Rogers says he also understands the allure of an appointment. "A by-election would leave them short another council member for a couple months, but there's a cost involved with it and the time and so forth, so I do understand why they want a seat in the seat as soon as possible."
If council chooses a by-election, there will be a 60 day nomination period, then 45 days from the nomination deadline until election day.
Whether elected or appointed, Rogers hopes he is considered for the post.
