The Windsor Spitfires have added some speed and skill to their lineup for the upcoming OHL season.
The club reports forward Matthew MacDougall -- acquired from the Barrie Colts in June -- has decided to forego a US college scholarship to the University of Massachusetts and sign with the Spitfires.
General manager Warren Rychel says the 17-year-old has a chance to be a very good player with professional potential.
"He's eligible for (the) 2018 (NHL Draft) and he'll be on a lot of radars," says Rychel. "We took a chance when we made this trade. But if paid off. I spent time with the family and let them know what we had to offer. He's a modern day type player -- very fast and skilled."
The Aurora, Ontario, native calls it a great opportunity.
"The more I asked people, the more good things I heard about the city and the organization," says MacDougall. "Hearing all of that pushed me to sign here."
MacDougall is 5'10" and 175lbs and says the Spitfires "have a great track record of developing players."
MacDougall will be in Windsor when the team opens training camp on Monday.
