Shipments of badly needed face shields for frontline healthcare workers should begin leaving the Ford Motor Company's Windsor Engine Plant this week.
Production of face shields is already underway at the site at 1000 Henry Ford Centre Dr., not far from Drouillard Road.
The shields are in high demand to help protect emergency workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ford of Canada President and CEO Dean Stoneley, says, "By re-purposing our production facilities in Windsor to meet the urgent demand for face shields, we can help protect the lives of our heroic healthcare professionals."
Ford is working with the provincial and federal governments to distribute the masks throughout Ontario and Canada.
According to a release, Unifor and Ford are working to "ensure all safety actions and precautions are taken to help keep workers and their families protected."
