The town of Lakeshore is putting together a new Stormwater Master Plan.
Mayor Tom Bain says, with two major flooding events in less a year, it's time to look into what can be done to fix the problem.
The town has budgeted $350,000 for the plan, which will cover potential improvements for both the town and private homeowners.
Bain says the town will be collaborating with the Essex Region Conservation Authority while developing the plan. "ERCA certainly will play a big role and we'll be looking at what can homeowners do to help this, and the second part will be what does the town do to help in this? What can we do, as a municipality, to lessen what happens?"
"It's a big cost, but money well spent," says Bain. "It's a huge price tag, but certainly it is well worth it. When you total up all the damage that was done in last year's storms and the havoc it caused and what it caused individual homeowners, this plan will be a big answer toward solving the flooding problem."
The Stormwater Master Plan will include a number of recommendations for the town's storm system as well as a prioritized list of what should be carried out and when.
The final report is expected to be brought back to council in December.
