Activity at Windsor Airport continues to increase.
According to Statistics Canada, 42,700 flights moved in and out of the airport in 2018, an increase over the 39,000 recorded in 2017.
That ranks Windsor as the 36th busiest airport in the country in 2018, out of 91 airports tracked by Stats Canada.
Despite the increase in flights, passengers volumes were relatively flat in 2018, with 330,000 people passing through the airport according to the Corporate leader of Windsor's Transportation Services, Carolyn Brown.
She adds, while the overall numbers were flat, there were some areas of improvement.
"Where we saw improvement was with the Air Canada direct service to Montreal. That has increased substantially."
Air Canada direct flights to Montreal, along with Porter Airlines flights to Florida, helped to improve passenger volumes, but Brown says Sunwing flights to places like Jamaica didn't perform as well as in previous years.
She points to travel advisories and safety issues in Jamaica during 2018 as having an impact on flights to the Caribbean nation.
"There was an issue with security or travel alert that hadn't been lifted and clearly folks take a look at that before they make their travel decisions."
When asked if there are any changes to service or any additional routes being added in 2019, Brown says it's a little too early to release that information but they are looking at some improvements.
In 2010, the airport recorded just 26,025 flights for the entire year.
Toronto/Lester B. Pearson International Airport posted the most in 2018 with 475,775 movements last year.
