A strike is looming at Flex-N-Gate in Lakeshore.
Unifor Local 195 represents the 200 workers at the Patillo Rd. plant. President Gerry Farnham says talks between the union and the employer broke off on Tuesday.
He says the workers could hit the picket line next week.
"We're still far apart and so as of May 18 at 12:01am, we will be in a position of legal strike action," says Farnham.
He says the workers are prepared to strike if necessary.
"The reality of it is at the end of the day we're trying to hammer out an agreement, like I said it's unfortunate but the talks broke down," says Farnham. "We are prepared to meet at the bargaining table if the company see fit to do so, if not we're in a position to take strike action."
A strike authorization meeting was held last month. The workers voted 99% in favour of strike action if needed to back contract demands.
Farnham says the workers make the floor rails for the Chrysler minivan and if a strike happens, the Windsor Assembly Plant would be impacted "rather quickly."
