The first step in a $75,000 plan to rebrand Amherstburg has been launched.
Council teamed up with Cinnamon Toast New Media Inc. back in May to create a new tourism website, update the town's communications plan, and image. The first phase of that journey will be gather public input through an online survey.
Mayor Aldo DiCarlo tells AM800 News it's been a long time since Amherstburg's brand has gotten some serious consideration.
"We have gone with pretty much what we have known for quite some time and it seems that it's time to move into the 21st Century and look at how we market ourselves," he says.
With so much negativity surrounding the town just a few years ago, DiCarlo says the town wants to keep positive momentum. While some residents have reacted negatively to the idea of an image change, the majority of the feedback he's received is saying, "it's about time."
"The goal is going to be to try and find some something that pleases everyone that also is simple, grabs people's attention, and shows the very progressive position we've taken in the last few years," says DiCarlo.
He says they're not looking to reinvent the wheel, whatever image comes out in the end will hold true to the things that made Amherstburg what it is today.
"Something that really reflects who are today, capturing who we were, we don't want lose sight of that historical background we have because people love that about us," he says. "They come to town for that, but we also have to show that we're a lot more than that."
The first public consultation will be held at Amherstburg's Libro Credit Union Centre on Aug. 29 at 3pm.
