The first confirmed human case of West Nile Virus of this season has been identified in Windsor-Essex.
The Windsor Essex County Health Unit says lab tests confirm the clinically diagnosed case.
The health unit remind people only about 25% of people who get the virus end up with West Nile fever.
And only a small number — 1% — develop severe neuroinvasive disease.
The health unit calls this a reminder for people to continue to protect themselves from mosquito bites.
And residents should remove any standing water where mosquitos breed.
