Riverside Minor Baseball Association is honouring one if its own.
The Rob Morneau Memorial Baseball Tournament began Friday and runs through the weekend.
Morneau died after he tripped and fell through a skylight on a job in east Windsor last November.
Riverside Royals Pee Wee travel teams hit the field against teams from throughout southwestern Ontario in his name. Thirteen teams participated in what board member Darren Cull says is a fitting way to celebrate Morneau's life.
"He loved competitive baseball, but he liked doing it with a smile on his face," says Cull. "The weather [is] great, there'll be competitive games and hopefully a lot of fun for the boys. He loved that part for sure."
Cull says both Morneau's sons played in the tournament.
"Couldn't ask for a better venue, the age groups he coached. His one son, Noah, is playing on his team and his younger son is playing on the team now with Chris Lewis," says Cull. "There couldn't be a better way to honour Rob. A guy who loved baseball with a baseball tournament in July with weather like this."
Morneau is survived by two young sons and his wife.
